| Mayor's Message
It is an honour for me to be the Mayor of the little town that is Your Gateway to the North Channel - recognized as one of the finest boating areas in the world. We have a rich and varied history that melds the people and cultures of the early settlers with the rich heritage of our neighbouring First Nations, with whom we gratefully share their traditional territories. Tucked as we are into the nooks and crannies of Lake Huron's North Shore, at the mouth of the big Spanish River, we may seem hidden away but the truth is our pretty little town is right under your nose. Spanish is just over a one hour drive west of Sudbury, as you head toward Sault Ste. Marie, just not quite half way. We plan to convince you that if you don't live here you should come for a visit, or better, come to live here with us. If you are lucky enough to already live here then you will agree that we can work together to continue building our shared quality of life. For sure we have our challenges, but together we can enjoy the beauty and natural wonders of our special place, as both residents and visitors. While Lake Huron is at our front doorstep, our backyard is a vast expanse of lakes, rocky outcrops, marshlands, rivers and forests inviting you to lose yourself for an hour, a day, or a week, as you explore by canoe, ATV, snowmobile or on foot. Come and stay a while... or just stay! You have my sincere invitation. Gary Bishop, Mayor
